Over The Moon Recipient

The Dreams Come True “Over The Moon” Award was developed to recognize the men and women in our local hospitals and clinics who are on the front lines of treating and assisting our children, and who go above and  “Over the Moon” for our dreamers.

We are proud to announce Tori Hutsell, Oncology Nurse at Nemours Children’s Specialty Care Jacksonville, as our recent recipient of the “Over The Moon” Award.

Tori is a phenomenal advocate for the children and families she serves. She approaches each day with glitter, a smile, and a positive attitude. Nurses are at the center of care for our children. Tori exemplifies the spirit and passion, making her the best!

Here are some questions we asked Tori:

Tell us a little more about yourself and what you enjoy doing outside of your career?

I have been pursuing my passion as a pediatric oncology nurse for over 17 years.  I am a wife and a mom to two beautiful children: a smart, beautiful daughter, and a fun loving, rambunctious boy.  I love the beach (looking for sea shells AND mermaids) and my sweet puppy, Star.  Our family loves traveling, from visits to Disney World (to see Tinkerbelle) and Universal Studios (to practice our magic spells with Harry Potter), to the mountains of North Carolina and the small, out of the way places Florida has to offer.  I love anything with glitter, sparkles, and fairy dust! Most of all, I love time to laugh and have fun with my family.

What do you love about your job?

What I love most about my position are my sweet loves, the dreamers. These kids brighten every day and give unexplainable joy to all who come in contact with them. Their imagination is beyond limits and they are breathtaking. I love coming to Nemours and being around my coworkers who have the same calling and love for their dreamers.

What do you enjoy about working with Dreams Come True?

Dreams Come True is a phenomenal organization, like no other. Dreams Come True really does make dreams into reality. When you talk to someone about their dream, you see the most amazing sparkle in their eyes. They are able to realize that their dreams didn’t stop because of their situation. An indescribable feeling washes over you every time you see a smile on one of their faces as they realize their dreams will become reality. Dreams Come True gives these kids the ability to see a brighter day, the dream fulfilled, and a wish granted. This organization goes above and beyond with everyone. Though every dreamer has his/her own dream, each with a unique twist, the beautiful and amazing Dream Makers find a way to make it real.  It is also amazing to see that the impact made by the Dream Makers doesn’t stop with the dreamers.  Dreams Come true also brings families and communities together, as they inspire others to make these dreamers feel enormously special.

How would you describe the impact of a dream on a child and their family?

The impact of the dream on the family and the dreamer is truly extraordinary. These families are able to make fantastic, lasting memories. They are able to have an escape from the obstacles they are facing. However, what Dreams Come True provides is more than just an escape.  Through these opportunities, families are able to renew hope, uplift spirits, and encourage the dreamers to believe in what may have seemed impossible.

One of your fondest memories associated with a dreamer and their dream trip

I have so many beautiful memories of sweet dreamers and their dreams. It is a magical moment to see the pure joy in the dreamer when they get to see their dream come true. I love talking about what they did at Disney, which princess or pirate they saw, what latest electronic they received, or the shopping spree that made them feel like they were a movie star.

From the horse that they adopted and named, to the art show that displayed their creation, to the impromptu change in dates for a dream to Disney, where the memories for that family are worth more than all the money in the world, each and every dream has an imprint of that dreamer, and I love hearing every unique and wonderful dream!

What does Dreams Come True mean to you?

Dreams Come True means HOPE that is dazzling. They give hope and happiness. They give the dreamer and their family a look into a world were dreams really do come true!

Dream Society of Giving

In 1984, the Northeast Florida community laid the foundation that has led to the fulfillment of more than 3,700 dreams. Today, annual corporate and individual gifts sustain the ever growing work of Dreams Come True as we strive to maintain our commitment to never have a waiting list and never turn down an eligible child. Gifts to Dreams Come True are tailored to meet the goals of each company or individual donor. Regardless of whether your support is through a general donation or for a specific program or event, your gift will be recognized.

Approximately 98% of all dreams granted by Dreams Come True last year fell into this range. Therefore, by becoming a Dream Maker, you can underwrite the cost of an entire dream.

To learn more about our levels of giving, download our Dream Society of Giving packet. For additional information, or questions about getting your company involved, please reach out to Sheri Criswell, Executive Director, at sheri@dreamscometrue.org or 904-296-3030.
