Making Dreams Come True
for children with life-threatening illnesses
Over The Moon Recipient
The Dreams Come True “Over The Moon” Award was developed to recognize the men and women in our local hospitals and clinics who are on the front lines of treating and assisting our children, and who go above and “Over the Moon” for our dreamers.
We are proud to announce Jillian Swanson, Artist in Resident with Art with a Heart in Healthcare at Wolfson Children’s Hospital, as our recent recipient of the “Over The Moon” Award.
Art with a Heart in Healthcare provides personalized fine art experiences that enhance the healing process for patients and their families. As the Artist-in-Resident with Art with a Heart, Jill Swanson, always goes above and beyond for the children during their stay, getting to know what brings each child joy and creating a masterpiece that they can take part in and keep forever.
Along with the Art with a Heart team, Jill continuously dedicates her time to turning the walls of hospital rooms into an art gallery curated by some of the bravest children.
Here are some questions we asked Jill:
Tell us a little more about yourself and what you enjoy doing outside of your career?
I’m an Artist in Resident with Art With a Heart in Healthcare at Wolfson Children’s Hospital. When I’m not working you can find me in the gym or baking my favorite cookies, or reading. I’m also a super aunt and love spending time with my three nieces and nephews.
What do you love about your job?
What I love most about my job, besides it not being the normal 9 to 5, is that I get to brighten a patient’s day by bringing them art. It’s such a simple thing that can make a “bad” day into a great day. I love to see when a patient who isn’t feeling well decides to make art and you can just see the pain leave there face because they forget about their situation just for a little bit and in that time are a normal kid.
How would you describe the impact of a dream on a child and their family?
I feel dreams help to enrich the life of the child and family. I think having a dream, especially for a child who needs such extreme medical care, means they have hope and are just like every other kid, filled with wants and dreams.
What does Dreams Come True mean to you?
Dreams Come True is a wonderful organization that I find lets kids be kids and allows them and their families to see themselves as happy and light, not just their diagnosis. What patients and their families go through is hard and can make anyone’s view be solely focused on getting better, losing the simple fact that it’s just a kid who wants to have fun and experience life just like anyone else. Sometimes getting better means you need to laugh and have fun. That’s what Dreams Come True means to me.
What is one of your fondest memories associated with a dreamer and their dream trip?
One of my all-time favorite Dreamers is Meleah. She and I have such a bond. She’s one of those kids that just makes your day when you see her. I’m also a huge Harry Potter fan. Meleah and her family recently went to Harry Potter world in Universal/Islands of Adventure in Orlando. That’s by far one of my favorite Dreams Come True trips that I’ve seen. We talk about Harry Potter almost every time I see her. Last time I saw her I had just learned how to make an Origami Golden Snitch and couldn’t wait to show her.
At Dreams Come True, our mission is brought to life through the dedication and passion of our staff, volunteers and the partnerships on the First Coast that we cherish. It is together that we are able to ensure that no child is denied a dream or placed on a waiting list. Thank you to all our donors for their assistance in bringing hope and joy into the lives of local children battling life-threatening illnesses. A special thank you to the following community partners who have gone above and beyond to help us fulfill our mission.
Our Community. Our Children. Our Commitment.

Dream Society of Giving
In 1984, the Northeast Florida community laid the foundation that has led to the fulfillment of more than 3,700 dreams. Today, annual corporate and individual gifts sustain the ever growing work of Dreams Come True as we strive to maintain our commitment to never have a waiting list and never turn down an eligible child. Gifts to Dreams Come True are tailored to meet the goals of each company or individual donor. Regardless of whether your support is through a general donation or for a specific program or event, your gift will be recognized.
Approximately 98% of all dreams granted by Dreams Come True last year fell into this range. Therefore, by becoming a Dream Maker, you can underwrite the cost of an entire dream.
